Capsule Geology

The Osprey-Wasi Road occurrence is located near the base of the southern slope of the Osilinka River valley, about 42 kilometres north of the community of Germansen Landing. The showing is marked by a gossanous outcrop about 80 metres in length.

A Cambrian to Lower Devonian package consisting of the Razorback (Kechika and Road River groups equivalents), Echo Lake (Sandpile Group equivalent) and Otter Lakes (McDame Group equivalent) groups comprise a regional northwest plunging anticline which is offset by faults and local drag folds. Sandy and argillaceous dolomite, massive limestone and minor calcareous slate comprise this Paleozoic sequence.

Mineralization, consisting of zinc-rich dolospar and calcite, has replaced dolomite and dolomitic breccia of the Ordovician to Lower Devonian Echo Lake Group. Chaotic collapse breccia hosts pervasive sphalerite throughout, with higher grade sections found in apparent shear zones or areas where the original porosity was greater. Two-metre chip samples taken across the showing assayed as high as 15.8 per cent zinc and 0.34 per cent lead (Assessment Report 21914).

In 1990, work by W. Halleran included prospecting and limited rock sampling after the area was restaked as the Osprey claims. Cominco Ltd. obtained the claims in an option agreement in September 1991 and conducted a base-of-slope soil geochemical program along the Osilinka valley below the Placer Development Limited soil grid. Re-examination of the known mineralized sites as well as general geological orientation and prospecting was carried out. Work done by Halleran in 1990 was re-examined as it covered other ground not included in the Placer work area.

In 2017, work was conducted on the Wasi Davies property claims which cover the Upper Osprey showing (094C 161) located 1.1 kilometres southeast and the Osprey showing (this description). The exploration work by B. Kreft consisted of prospecting and geochemical sampling (54 soil samples and 15 rock samples).
